A Parallel Society

Next: 1c – God’s One Channel

Over the course of its history, the Watch Tower Society has effectively created and maintained a ‘parallel society.’ Although not living in a colony as do fundamentalist Anabaptists (Amish, Hutterite, Mennonite), the Watch Tower Society has declared its movement to be a “community to ourselves,” [1] its own theocratic nation, [2] [3] [4] its own government, [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] with Jehovah’s Witnesses being its citizens. [10]

The Bible is considered to be its constitution, [11] [12] [13] and the church’s Governing Body is the definitive interpreter of this ‘constitution.’ [14] Only Jehovah’s Witnesses are able to understand the Bible, and they can only understand it through the Governing Body. [15] The Governing Body acts as the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary of this nation, ensuring that its laws are enforced. [16] [17] [18] [19] Any law of a secular government that the Governing Body interprets as being against God’s law is considered to be invalid.[20]

Watch Tower’s current theology is that Satan the Devil and all of his demons were cast down from heaven to the earth in A.D. 1914, and have infected all of humankind that are not Jehovah’s Witnesses. [21] [22] [23] [24] This infection includes all of human institutions, including governments, courts, education institutions, the media, the police and military. [25] [26] Thus, there is a wide gulf between the morality of Jehovah’s Witnesses and the inherent immorality of all non-Jehovah’s Witnesses, who are by default of Satan. [27]

“She was the only person around me who knew how I felt – what it was like to be warring inside between two worlds, two worlds that were a conceptual fabrication of some men long ago, two worlds that didn’t exist for people on the outside but that you knew like your own body from the inside…We were in the middle, but there was no middle ground.”

Amber Scorah – Leaving the Witness

Both prior to, but especially since 1914, the objective of Satan is to destroy the Watch Tower Society and infect or at least influence individual Jehovah’s Witnesses. [28] [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] Satan is using every means possible to accomplish this, including the use of governments. [34] [35] [36]

Attending all of the meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses is crucial to overcome the relentless attacks of Satan and his demons, and will save one’s life. [37] [38] [39] Satan will attack children as much as adults. [40] Jehovah’s Witnesses receive the “holy spirit” primarily at the twice-weekly meetings, which will essentially provide temporary inoculation against Satan. The meetings are “actively directed” by God. [41] Failure to attend all of the meetings will thus make one “spiritually weak,” and then more susceptible to Satan’s efforts to make that one infected and sin.[42] [43] (See – Meetings)

Confession of sins to elders is mandatory, even by children. The elders can then determine what caused the person to sin, and determine whether or not the person simply needs counselling, or whether he has become so infected that he must be expelled [complete ostracizing] in order to protect the others from becoming infected. [44] (See Sins – Must Confess to Elders) Whether or not the sinner is reproved or disfellowshipped, he has demonstrated that he has become spiritually weak and reinfected, and needs to be healed, [45] which curative healing can only be achieved by strictly following the requirements of the organization. [46]

The dates change as to when, but God chose the Watch Tower Society to counter the activity of Satan. [47] [48] [49] [50] [51] God even created the Watch Tower Society before its incorporation, [52] it being God’s “channel of communication.” (See – God’s One Channel) God has commissioned Jehovah’s Witnesses “to be over the nations and over the kingdoms.” [53]

To non-Jehovah’s Witnesses, this is a “secret organization.” [54]

Because Satan has infected and controls every non-Jehovah’s Witness, and every “worldly” institution, Jehovah’s Witnesses cannot trust anyone but another Jehovah’s Witness, and in particular a church elder. Elders have more authority than do government officials, who only have “relative authority.” [55] [56] Jehovah’s Witnesses especially trust the Watch Tower Society, as God uses the publications of the Watch Tower Society to communicate – principally through The Watchtower magazine, together with the other publications.[57] (See – Watchtower)

If any person is not a Jehovah’s Witness, then he is unconditionally considered to be a supporter of Satan. [58] [59] [60] [61] [62] [63] Not just persons who are of opponents of Jehovah’s Witnesses, but persons who are “nonsupporters” of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses are “not excusable,” and are therefore “cursed” and will accordingly “be punished with the Devil and his angels” for their failure to aid and support. [64]

‘Imminently’, [65] an event called “The Great Tribulation” will begin, which begins when God induces all of the governments around the world (as well as the United Nations) to totally ban and outlaw all religion.[66] [67] [68] Only Jehovah’s Witnesses will continue to practice their religion.

When the governments become aware that Jehovah’s Witnesses are the only surviving religion, then the governments will begin to hunt down every Jehovah’s Witness.

Source:www.jw.org/en/library/videos/#en/categories/2016Convention

At that precise moment, God will use Jesus, the angels, and the 144,000, to save Jehovah’s Witnesses by destroying every non-Jehovah’s Witness – this is known as Armageddon.[69] [70] [71] [72] [73]

(Satan and his demons will then be imprisoned for 1,000 years. After the 1,000 years, Satan will be briefly released so that he can attempt to re-infect the now perfect Jehovah’s Witnesses, but he will fail and be destroyed.[74]

The Watch Tower Society is the only organization that will survive Armageddon.[75]

The Damocles sword of a horrible death at Armageddon is continuously held over the heads of Jehovah’s Witnesses, including children.[76] Children should not make friends with non-Jehovah’s Witnesses, as these will “perish at Armageddon,”[77] and will lose out on eternal life.[78]

Being its own government, the New World Society (the Watch Tower Society) has built up its own body of theocratic law,[79] [80] and has established its own ecclesiastical courts, called “judicial hearings,” which are comprised of a “judicial committee.” (See section: “Ecclesiastical Courts”)

Jehovah’s Witnesses cannot take a fellow Jehovah’s Witness (nor the corporation owned by a fellow Jehovah’s Witness) to court. Instead, they must use the church’s elders to resolve all disputes, even if the dispute is a civil matter, such as a broken contract. Violating this policy can result in “disfellowshipping.”

All members must submit themselves and their children to this “theocratic authority,” and accept its decisions.[81] [82] [83]

This policy of forcing members to not use “secular” courts has a significant impact on the issue of CSA.

(Should the question be raised as to the legitimacy of the Watch Tower Society ousting the jurisdiction of the court?)

Obedience and submission to elders now is considered preparation to live in the New World.[84] [85] [86]

Obedience and submission to the elders is required even if the member disagrees, as disobedience would cause God to distance himself from that one.[87]

Challenging “Jehovah’s channel” will cause one to lose his life.[88]

If a member has been harmed by an elder, he should “wait on Jehovah” to correct things “in his own time and way.”[89]

Unquestioning obedience is demanded, even if it the direction seems strange to the person. This includes rejecting education and all other human organizations,[90] which organizations of Satan are permissive and immoral.[91]

Fear of government, the police, and the military, is amplified by means of images (Jan 2019 WT, Pure Worship, ch. 17, 18) and by means of videos (See videos above).

All of this combines to create an impossible situation for victims and survivors of abuse, together with their parents.[92]

  1. The Watchtower magazine, May 1, 1957, page 282 – “Coming out of the old world with its contentions and self-interest we may sometimes be inclined to forget that we are now living as a New World society. That means we are a community to ourselves. We do not need the law courts and arbitration boards of this corrupt and dying world.”

  2. The Watchtower magazine, April 1, 1954, page 222 – “The evidence of this wonderful event is realized on earth by the movement in this visible theocratic nation. Jehovah God is the Sovereign and rules over it. Shortly all the members of the royal priesthood will be gathered together in heavenly glory, and then the kingdom of priests will rule from heaven and over all. Upon earth will be the visible representatives of this theocratic government. These representatives will be “princes” (sarimʹ), having the oversight of all matters pertaining to visible human society. The nucleus of this human society is now being unified, organized and trained for the future thousand-year service.”

  3. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1994, page 21 – “During the time of the end of this system of things, there was to be a separating of true Christians from false Christians. (Matthew 13:37-43) This happened in 1919, a pivotal year in the history of theocracy. At that time the glorious prophecy of Isaiah 66:8 was fulfilled: “Who has seen things like these? Will a land be brought forth with labor pains in one day? Or will a nation be born at one time?” The answer to those questions was a resounding yes! In 1919 the Christian congregation once again existed as a separate “nation.” A theocratic “land” was indeed born as in one day! As the time of the end progressed, the organization of this new nation was adjusted to bring it as close as possible to what existed in the first century. (Isaiah 60:17) But it was always a theocracy. In conduct and belief, it always reflected the divinely inspired laws and principles in the Scriptures. And it was always subject to the enthroned King, Jesus Christ.—Psalm 45:17; 72:1, 2.

“Are you associated with this theocracy? Do you have a position of authority in it? If so, do you know what it means to act theocratically? Do you know what snares to avoid? The last two questions will be discussed in the following article.”

  4. The Watchtower magazine, January 1, 1995, page 10 – “In fact, the righteous nation is easy to recognize because it is the only nation on earth that is subject to Christ the King, hence not part of Satan’s world.”

  5. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1943, page 206 – “The New World Government is 29 years old. Consequently it should be kept before the minds of the people at all times by calling at their homes and telling them about it, by making back-calls and conducting studies with them, by working business territory and calling on them in their offices. They should be witnessed to on the streets with our magazines, publishers presenting the message of the New World. No matter where they go, the people should have always before them the evidence that the New World Government has begun to function.”

  6. The Watchtower magazine, June 1, 1955, page 333 – “THE final change-over to a theocratic organization of Jehovah’s witnesses occurred in 1938…In consequence of this Biblical study of organization the following was the resolution suggested to and adopted by all congregations who desired to be welded together under the Society’s theocratic leadership:

“We, the company of God’s people taken out for his name, and now at ___________, recognize that God’s government is a pure theocracy and that Christ Jesus is at the temple and in full charge and control of the visible organization of Jehovah, as well as the invisible, and that ‘THE SOCIETY’ is the visible representative of the Lord on earth, and we therefore request ‘The Society’ to organize this company for service and to appoint the various servants thereof, so that all of us may work together in peace, righteousness, harmony and complete unity. We attach hereto a list of names of persons in this company that to us appear more fully mature and who therefore appear to be best suited to fill the respective positions designated for service.”

“Finally, for the service year of 1939—just twenty years after the germ of theocratic supervision had been planted in the office of “service director” of a congregation—Jehovah’s witnesses enjoyed their first full year of complete theocratic supervision as to their individual congregations. What a period of peace and prosperity was ushered in! Gone were the days of electioneering, wrangling and democratic voting. The King Christ Jesus was now at the helm of his earthly organization, being the one to direct appointments and guide the government of the assemblies of Jehovah’s people.”

  7. The Watchtower magazine, October 1, 1967, page 586 – “They mean that God will make his kingdom under Christ just as real in governmental functions as the governments of men now ruling… But this prophecy of Isaiah reveals something further, namely, that this administration of God’s righteousness will begin even before God removes the governments of this system of things.”

  8. The Awake! magazine, February 22, 1979, page 14 – “Although God’s kingdom is a heavenly government, it is a reality. It has earthly agencies or organs that contribute to peace and unity: training programs, schools, judicial systems and counseling arrangements.”

  9. The Watchtower magazine, March 15, 1984, page 10 – “Already a superior world government exists that has the first allegiance of millions of people throughout all nations… That government has superior laws and principles, as recorded in the most sacred of all documents, God’s inspired Word, the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) And since 1914 the Fine Shepherd, Jesus Christ, has been gathering the citizens of God’s New Order. So right now the foundation of that new earthly society is being laid! Yes, all of this is very real. It is not just a dream.—Matthew 25:31-46; John 10:14-16; 2 Peter 3:13. As citizens of the New Order, Jehovah’s Witnesses in every land give God’s heavenly Kingdom government their first allegiance.”

  10. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1956, page 404, and September 1, 1957, page 529 – “When one makes an unconditional dedication to Jehovah he becomes an alien to this old devilish world. Therefore dedication is like taking out citizenship in the new world, and the formal ceremony of baptism is in effect an oath before witnesses confirming this fact.” (Also, see endnote above)

  11. Australian Royal Commission hearing August 14, 2015 – testimony of Governing Body member Geoffrey Jackson: “Q. And your reference to your constitution, I understand by the way in which you raised the Bible as you said that, you were referring to the Bible?

    A. The Bible is our constitution, yes.”

  12. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1979, page 5 – “EARMARKS OF A REAL GOVERNMENT – As already mentioned, one outstanding evidence of a real government is that it has subjects. “In the multitude of people there is an adornment of a king,” the Bible says. (Prov. 14:28) It also has laws that are enforced, as well as some kind of educational system. Does God’s kingdom have such earmarks of a real government? Yes, we have seen that it does. An entire society of more than two million people world wide have adopted the laws in the Bible as their constitution, as the rules to govern their lives. These people have taken the name of the Great Lawmaker, calling themselves Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

  13. The Watchtower magazine, April 1, 1976, page 218 – “Yet today there is a government that is succeeding where all others are failing. Why? Because it is not another man-made government. It is God’s Kingdom government, now providing administration for the way of the truth on earth. Two million loyal subjects in over 200 lands voluntarily and enthusiastically support its policies, physically, mentally and materially. Its constitution and body of law (the Bible) are implemented through local citylike congregations far more effectively than is true of any laws of earthly governments…The subjects of that Kingdom government receive an unparalleled education in the truth through textbooks that constitute more than half of the world’s top ten all-time best sellers.”

  14. Australian Royal Commission hearing August 14, 2015 – testimony of Governing Body member Geoffrey Jackson:

“Q. And the definitive interpretation of the Bible from time to time is the Governing Body; is that right?

    A. Ultimately, as guardians of our doctrine and beliefs, yes, some central group needs to make that decision, but that doesn’t mean to say that we are just on our own unilaterally making those decisions without research and input from others.”

  15. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1973, page 402 – “Consider, too, the fact that Jehovah’s organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God’s holy spirit or active force. (Zech. 4:6) Only this organization functions for Jehovah’s purpose and to his praise. To it alone God’s Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book. Many persons of the world are very intelligent, capable of understanding complex matters. They can read the Holy Scriptures, but they cannot understand their deep meaning. Yet God’s people can comprehend such spiritual things…How very much true Christians appreciate associating with the only organization on earth that understands the “deep things of God”!”

  16. “The Governing Body retains authority in respect of all publications in the name of the Jehovah’s Witness organisation and any view or perspective contrary to that of the Governing Body is not tolerated.” Submissions of Senior Counsel assisting the ARC, September 25, 2015

  17. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1979, page 5 – “It also has laws that are enforced, as well as some kind of educational system. Does God’s kingdom have such earmarks of a real government? Yes, we have seen that it does. An entire society of more than two million people world wide have adopted the laws in the Bible as their constitution, as the rules to govern their lives. These people have taken the name of the Great Lawmaker, calling themselves Jehovah’s Witnesses. (Isa. 33:22; 43:12) In the Christian congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses earth wide, the laws of God’s kingdom are loyally obeyed.”

  18. The Awake! magazine, February 22, 1979, page 14 – “God’s government is interested in educating its subjects so that they can gain accurate knowledge of its laws. It has also provided for judicial arrangements to see to it that these laws are enforced.”

  19. The Watchtower magazine, October 1, 1967, page 585 “They mean that God will make his kingdom under Christ just as real in governmental functions as the governments of men now ruling. God’s promises mean, too, that provision must be made to administer that kingdom and see that its laws are properly enforced.”

  20. The Watchtower magazine, December 1, 1998, page 22 – “It is their firm conviction that any laws or court decisions that would prohibit them from obeying God’s commands—including the command to preach the good news—are invalid.”

  21. The Watchtower magazine, July 15, 2010, page 4 – “That spirit, or “air,” pervades Satan’s world. It impels people to think, plan, speak, and act in ways that reflect the mind of Satan, the proud, defiant “ruler of the authority of the air. Therefore, knowingly or unknowingly, those infected by the world’s spirit allow their minds and hearts to be influenced by Satan, so that they reflect his thinking and attitude. As a result, they do what they want, without regard for the will of God.”

  22. The Watchtower magazine, January 1, 2006, page 25 – “When Jesus’ disciples received the commission to be his witnesses “to the most distant part of the earth,” they faced a difficult situation. (Acts 1:8) All their assigned territory was “lying in the power of the wicked one,” Satan. (1 John 5:19) The world was infected with the wicked spirit that he promotes, and Christians would be exposed to its contaminating influence. (Ephesians 2:2) For them, the world was a dangerous place.”

  23. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1951, page 306 – “In fact, for the sake of these elect or chosen ones Jehovah cut short the days of the great tribulation upon Satan’s world, that the remnant might be relieved of what ailed them spiritually and might be saved to heavenly life in the new world. He healed the waters of doctrine that they were drinking, to immunize them against infection by this sinful world…Hundreds of thousands have already come to these trees by the riverside, have eaten the Kingdom fruits offered and have applied to themselves the curative leaves by accepting the educational services of Jehovah’s anointed remnant of witnesses. They have experienced healing mentally, morally, and in their relations with God. So now they are in line for eternal life in the new world…This will represent the climax of the great Physician’s health program. Those who keep their complete spiritual soundness by their integrity under this final test will be justified to eternal life on the paradise earth. They will eat of its perfect fruits and sustain their lives in God’s image and likeness, with everlasting joy upon their heads. Earth will no more be labeled with a sign, “Beware! Contagious disease here,” to warn the rest of the universe.”

  24. The Watchtower magazine, May 1, 1992, page 31 – “In striking contrast to those blinded by Satan are Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

  25. Preparation (1933), page 29 – “This report must have been made following the end of the World War and when Satan’s agencies were seeking means and remedies to bring peace on the war-torn earth. They gave no heed to God’s kingdom, but so far as it is concerned they sat still and rested and relied upon the League of Nations, the World Court, peace treaties, and like things, to keep Satan’s organization in possession of the world. Of course, they gave no assistance to God’s people to proclaim the truth, but treated them with contempt. Such describes the attitude of the various parts of Satan’s organization on earth from 1918 to 1922.”

  26. The Watchtower magazine, December 15, 1985, page 11 – “Satan, the first apostate, challenged the way that Jehovah had expressed and exercised His sovereignty toward His creatures on earth. (Genesis 3:1-5; Job 1:6-12; 2:1-5) As a result, on earth and later in heaven, some creatures became infected with Satan’s rebellious attitude. Satan also influenced men to set up a series of human kingdoms.”

  27. The Watchtower magazine, June 1, 1989, page 14 – “The foregoing underscores the ever-widening gulf that separates Jehovah’s people from Satan’s world…

God’s people, on the other hand, are walking on a different road, a clean road being followed by clean people.”

  28. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1983, page 22 – “From the very outset of his rebellion Satan called into question God’s way of doing things. He promoted independent thinking. ‘You can decide for yourself what is good and bad,’ Satan told Eve. ‘You don’t have to listen to God. He is not really telling you the truth.’ (Genesis 3:1-5) To this day, it has been Satan’s subtle design to infect God’s people with this type of thinking.”

  29. Spirits of the Dead, page 12 – “The Demons Are Killers! – Today, Satan and the demons are as murderous as ever. In fact, their evil activity has increased since they were thrown out of heaven. Reports from around the world testify to their cruelty. They plague some people with illness. Others they harass at night, depriving them of sleep or giving them terrible dreams. Others they abuse sexually. Still others they drive to insanity, murder, or suicide. Lintina, who lives in Suriname, relates that a demon, or bad spirit, killed 16 members of her family and tormented her physically and mentally for 18 years. From firsthand experience she states that the demons “enjoy torturing their unwilling victims until death.” “ (The life-story of Lintina van Geenen is in the Watchtower magazine, September 1, 1987, page 7.)

But Jehovah is able to protect his servants from Satan’s attacks.

  30. The Watchtower magazine, August 1, 2005, page 27 – “We live in a world that is ruled by Jehovah’s archenemy, Satan the Devil. (2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 5:19) Rather than being miraculously protected, Jehovah’s servants are, in fact, the prime target of Satan.”

  31. Keep Yourself in God’s Love, page 59 – “Those who keep themselves in God’s love also enjoy spiritual protection from Satan, who wants to deprive Christians, not just of happiness, but of everlasting life.”

  32. The Watchtower magazine, March 15, 1985, page 16 – “In that way, Satan set up the invisible, superhuman spirit part of his organization. The Flood survivors, Noah and his family, remained at unity with Jehovah’s invisible heavenly organization. (Genesis 6:9; 8:18-21) But Satan set out to break up the unity of faithful Noah’s descendants. What was the Devil’s objective? Why, to bring forth a visible part to his wicked organization!

“It took some time for the International Bible Students to discern that Satan has an organization. But The Watch Tower of May 1, 1921, said: “Not content with what he had already done, Satan seduced these of the heavenly host and caused them to debauch mankind and to fill the earth with violence. He organized a system invisible to human eyes, as well as a system on earth that is visible to human eyes, and has sought to counterfeit every part of the revealed plan of God.”

“ “Satan’s Purpose” was a subheading under which The Watch Tower of December 1, 1922, plainly said: “We are now in the evil day. The fight is on between Satan’s organization and God’s organization. It is a desperate fight. Satan is attempting to destroy the morale of the Lord’s organization and, if possible, to destroy the members of the house of sons. To this end he resorts to every possible scheme.” “

  33. The Watchtower magazine, December 1, 1974, page 732 – “The symbolic “trap” that Satan the Devil has set for those who trust in Jehovah God as their “refuge” and “stronghold” is the earthly organization that is opposed to God’s organization, namely, Satan’s visible organization. In it God’s great Adversary tries to catch Jehovah’s worshipers and to hold them as victims, to their spiritual ruin and ultimate destruction.’

  34. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1983, page 23 – “AS LONG as the wicked spirits and the world under their control exist, we must fight to keep from coming under their influence. The apostle Paul wrote: “Put on the complete suit of armor from God that you may be able to stand firm against the [crafty acts] of the Devil; because we have a wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places.” “

  35. The Watchtower magazine, December 15, 1976, page 756 – “The Dragon, Satan the Devil, and his demon army have been restrained from materializing visibly in the flesh in order to wage war on Jehovah’s Christian witnesses of today. Hence, they are obliged to use earthly agents under their unseen control, worldly persons, organizations and political governments.”

  36. The Watchtower magazine, August 15, 1953, page 496 – “Today we are living amid an international community that is split into two great blocs, a Communist republican bloc and a democratic bloc. Divided politically, economically and socially from each other, yet there are proofs to show that both blocs are unitedly against the New World society. Why? Because it does not follow the pattern of either bloc. The New World society is theocratic, as the righteous new world will be. It recognizes God as the rightful ruler, the supreme sovereign of heaven and earth. It abides by that fact in its organization and operations and holds fast to his Word, the Holy Bible, as furnishing us the supreme law.”

  37. The Watchtower magazine, December 15, 1966, page 741 – “One of the most common forms of demon attack is a mental one, the wicked spirit speaking out loud. One clearly hears a “voice.” What if you hear such a voice? …The thing to do if one is harassed by a demon voice is to follow the example of the Lord Jesus Christ, who refused to consider the Devil’s suggestions for a moment. So do not heed anything the “voice” says. Do what God says. If the voice tells you to stay home from Christian meetings, obey God, who says go to such meetings.”

  38. Yearbook of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1998, page 59 “But the demons started to bite and strangle her. She desperately needed help. Disappointed with other religious groups, she got in touch with Jehovah’s Witnesses. A Bible study with her was started immediately. She learned how to pray and how to resist the Devil. When she understood how Jehovah views spiritism, she burned her spiritistic literature and destroyed her five pendulums. Within four months, she was sharing in the field service, helping others to benefit from the truths that had done so much to set her free.”

  39. The Watchtower magazine, December 15, 2006, page 24 – “Likewise, the shelter provided by “the power of the Christ” does not stop trials from befalling us or hardships from being brought against us. Yet, it does give spiritual protection against the harmful elements of this world and the attacks of its ruler, Satan.”

  40. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1976, page 294 – “A Marvelous Liberation”

  41. The Watchtower magazine, April 2016, page 21 – “Jehovah blesses meetings with his holy spirit and actively directs the Scriptural teaching program… Think of it! Jehovah and Jesus are actively involved in strengthening us at Christian meetings.”

  42. The Watchtower magazine, August 15, 2007, page 14 – “The fact that tests may reveal weaknesses in our faith can also be beneficial if we thus see the need to take corrective measures. A person does well to ask himself: ‘How can I strengthen my faith? Do I need to spend more time in prayerful consideration of and meditation on God’s Word? Have I taken full advantage of the provisions to attend meetings with fellow believers?”

  43. The Watchtower magazine, February 15, 2010, page 9 -“Do my prayers show that I rely upon him to do his will? Do they contain words of appreciation for the ministry entrusted to us? How are my personal study habits? How much time do I take to meditate on what I read and hear? How involved am I in congregation meetings?’ Reflecting on questions such as these can help you identify areas of weakness and take corrective measures.”

  44. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1992, page 17 – “Such wisdom will help them to discern the difference between weakness and wickedness.”

  45. The Watchtower magazine, November 15, 2006, page 30 (full article) – “During the time that an individual who has been judicially reproved is healing spiritually, he might be likened to a person recovering from an injury, which temporarily limits his activity.”

  46. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1951, page 306 – “Hundreds of thousands have already come to these trees by the riverside, have eaten the Kingdom fruits offered and have applied to themselves the curative leaves by accepting the educational services of Jehovah’s anointed remnant of witnesses. They have experienced healing mentally, morally.”

  47. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1976, page 52 – “In a way far different from how He uses the modern-day Assyrian “ax,” Jehovah has used as his instrument the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania.”

  48. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1955, page 298 – “The Watch Tower of April 1, 1920 (page 100), and subsequent studies showed clearly that even Brother Russell in 1884 and subsequently kept urging that the Watch Tower Society was the instrument or channel being used by Jehovah to teach his people on earth.”

  49. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1933, page 154 – “Surely Jehovah has an organization on earth, because everything with him is done orderly. For many years he has used the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society. There is but one class of people that are doing his work on earth today, and these we call “the Society”, acting under the direction of the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society and putting forth the Watch Tower publications, and the expression of God’s will concerning the peoples of earth.”

  50. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1917, page 22 – ““The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society is the greatest corporation in the world, because from the time of its organization until now the Lord has used it as his channel through which to make known the glad tidings to many thousands, which glad tidings the whole world shall soon know.”

  51. The Awake! Magazine, June 22, 1999, page 18 – “Yet, she began to experience many problems. “I was tormented by the demons,” she told me. “I could not get a good night’s sleep.” At times, she would be in a semihypnotic state. “One time,” she explained, “I saw my six-month-old daughter Tulunai in the form of a piglet that was crawling toward me. I wanted to strangle it. But Tulunai began to cry loudly. I was horrified when I came to my senses and realized that I could have killed my daughter.”…

“But she still had disturbing visions at night and so uttered a sincere prayer: “Jehovah, if you are so powerful, please help me to get rid of these terrifying nightmares.” Within a few seconds, everything was fine and she felt normal.

“Svetlana started to pray before going to sleep at night, and to her surprise she would fall asleep quickly. “It was unbelievable that I could sleep like a normal person,” she said. She decided to study the Bible seriously with the help of publications of the Watch Tower Society.”

  52. The Watchtower magazine, August 15, 1953, page 494 – “A Watch Tower Tract Society existed and spread God’s message before ever Zion’s Watch Tower Tract Society was incorporated in 1884 under the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. After the battle of Armageddon obliterates this old world the New World society will continue on, for it will be approved and authorized by the only government then in power, the divine government. It will form the base, the nucleus, around which the population of the “new earth” will grow and fill all this planet.”

  53. The Watchtower magazine, January 15, 1959, page 41 – “Down with the Old – Up with the New! – Jehovah’s witnesses are deeply grateful today that the plain facts show that God has been pleased to use them. All the preaching and all the Bible educational work that they have done till now in 175 countries and islands of the sea they confess has been, not by help of a military army, nor by human power, but by God’s spirit, his invisible active force. (Zech. 4:6, AV) It has been because Jehovah thrust out his hand of power and touched their lips and put his words in their mouths. It has evidently been because he commissioned them to be over the nations and over the kingdoms.”

  54. The book Preparation (1933), page 64 – “Jehovah has provided his own good way to convey thoughts to the minds of his anointed ones. To all on the outside of the organization of Jehovah his is a secret organization.”

  55. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1986, page 7 – “With regard to headship in the Christian congregation, God’s Word states: “Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you and be submissive, for they are keeping watch over your souls as those who will render an account.” (Hebrews 13:17) Although this authority of elders is relative, yet it has been delegated to them by God through his holy spirit. Thus it has been granted in a more direct way than the relative authority delegated, for example, to government officials.”

  56. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1986, page 7 – “True Christians respect authority, both the absolute authority of God and the relative authority of humans.”

  57. 1939 Yearbook of Jehovah’s Witnesses, page 85 – “It should be expected that the Lord would have a means of communication to his people on the earth, and he has clearly shown that the magazine called The Watchtower is used for that purpose.”

  58. The Watchtower magazine, March 1, 1952, pages 132, 141 – “The whole purpose of bringing his servants, his people, into an organization is to keep them clean from the Devil’s organization. As long as we walk in the way of the Devil’s crowd we cannot remain clean. So God has built his own organization. There are two organizations in the world today. One is God’s and the other belongs to the Devil, who is the “god of this system of things”.”
“What we would do for the public, for those in the Devil’s organization, we may do for that one.”

  59. The Watchtower magazine, December 1, 1974, page 732 – “Notably from the year 1922 onward it was pointed out from the inspired Scriptures that Jehovah God has an organization, including his organized “remnant” on earth, and that there is an enemy organization, Satan’s organization, with an invisible demonic part and a visible earthly part. It was pointed out that, if one does not belong to Jehovah’s visible organization, then one belongs to the Adversary’s organization.”

  60. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1985, page 16 – “When a person gets out of Babylon the Great and away from her worldly partners, Big Business and Politics and Militarism, there can be only one other place to go. That is onto the side of the universal organization of the one living and true God, Jehovah. There is no middle ground. This requires that an individual endure the unfriendliness of this world.”

  61. The Watchtower magazine, July 15, 2011, page 18 – “If we stop actively supporting Jehovah’s work, then we start following Satan. There is no middle ground.”

  62. Keep Yourself in God’s Love (2014), page 84 – “Before taking up true worship, each of us, in one way or another, lent support to Satan’s system and thus incurred a measure of bloodguilt. However, because we changed our ways, cultivated faith in Christ’s ransom sacrifice, and dedicated our life to God, we gained God’s mercy and spiritual protection.”

  63. The Watchtower magazine, Simplified edition, July 2018, page 20 – “SOME EXPRESSIONS EXPLAINED Jehovah’s side: All humans have to choose whether they will support Jehovah or Satan.”

  64. Our Incoming World Government—God’s Kingdom (1977), page 169 – “This general refusal of people to recognize Christ’s spiritual “brothers” as being such, and this international hatred of them because of what they are preaching about the Kingdom have influenced people in their treatment of these. Where a nation has a Bill of Rights defending freedom of worship, individuals may not join in violently persecuting Christ’s “brothers.” But out of fear of public opinion or because of agreeing with it, such abstainers from persecution refuse willfully to aid, relieve or support Christ’s “brothers.” So their negative attitude, their neglect, is not excusable.—Proverbs 29:18.

“Jesus’ illustration of the sheep and the goats takes all of this into consideration. Failure to come to the aid and relief of Christ’s “brothers” carries along with it a failure to aid and support Christ’s kingdom, the incoming world government. This is a serious matter, and there is no middle ground, no compromise, no straddling of the fence, with respect to the issue of world government. Jesus Christ the King hates lukewarmness. (Revelation 3:16) Jesus also said: “He that is not on my side is against me, and he that does not gather with me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30; Luke 11:23) On this basis there is no injustice on Jesus’ part in declaring that the goatlike nonsupporters of his “throne” or kingdom are “cursed” and to be punished with the Devil and his angels. The title “Devil” means “Slanderer,” and these “goats” are classed with the Chief Devil because they listen to the slanders of the Devil and his angels and are prejudiced against Christ’s “brothers.” (Revelation 12:10) They should share his fate.”

  66. The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1984, page 15 – “However, those Judeans were not to stand idly by, waiting for whatever deliverance Jehovah might bring. They were to be a people of action! They must demonstrate obedience to Jehovah and do things his way if they were to survive. No doubt many of them felt that the instructions that came from Jehovah were rather unusual. These tested their integrity. In the same way, before Jehovah performs his ‘strange deed, his unusual work,’ in destroying Christendom at the beginning of the “great tribulation,” he requires his witnesses to share unitedly in a work that may seem unusual to many. It is their sacred service of going to the homes of the people, time and again, to warn them of the impending destruction.”

  67. The Watchtower magazine, March 1, 1973, page 150 – “What is to be gained by hesitating and doubting to the end that Jehovah can raise up and has raised up a genuine “prophet” within our generation? Certainly it will gain for no one the divine favor and protection needed during the speedily approaching “great tribulation.” If our course is to be that of wisdom and of faith, then, with Bible in hand, we will heed the warning of Jehovah’s true watchman and will take refuge where Jehovah indicates in his Word. Then, when Jehovah’s prophetic watchman gets the report that Christendom has been struck down, we, together with the faithful watchman, will continue to live.”

  68. The Watchtower magazine, March 1, 2006, page 7 – “Turn away, then, from any institutions or organizations that have besmirched the name of Christ and defamed Christianity over the past two thousand years. Otherwise, as Jesus Christ told the apostle John, you could “receive part of [their] plagues” when God executes his judgment on them in the near future.”

  69. The Watchtower magazine, November 1, 1979, page 8 – “After Jehovah has reckoned with the bloodguilty world, his clean people will emerge from their miraculously provided place of hiding to enjoy eternal peace on an earth that will never again be stained with the blood of wars and violence.”

  70. The Watchtower magazine, April 15, 1968, page 246 – “The priests of the false Christianity of Christendom, yes, all priests of the Babylonish world empire of false religion, will have been put out of office and executed in the approaching day of Jehovah’s anger, when he executes judgment among the nations.”

  71. The Watchtower magazine, December 15, 2007, page 25 – “For harassing and persecuting God’s people, they stand condemned. Soon Satan’s earthly agents will undertake a final attack on God’s true worshippers, which will lead to the world situation described in the Bible as Har–Magedon.”

  72. The Watchtower magazine, July 15, 2012, page 26 – “And throughout the final phase of the great tribulation, Jehovah will protect his people.’

  74. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1951, page 309 – “All those who undergo the full divine treatment till the great Physician discharges them from treatment because completely cured will be able to meet the loosing of Satan and his demons at the end of the thousand years. None will then be too weak to meet and repel his deceptive assaults and hold on to their perfect health of body, mind and heart against his infectious efforts. Those who yield to his deceptions will do so, not due to some lurking disability in their system, but willfully and on their own inexcusable responsibility. God and his King will not permit these rebels against theocratic government and righteousness to live on and contaminate and infect the new world with death-breeding sin. They will destroy them utterly, cauterizing out the disease possibilities with the fire of everlasting destruction.—Rev. 20:7-15. This will represent the climax of the great Physician’s health program. Those who keep their complete spiritual soundness by their integrity under this final test will be justified to eternal life on the paradise earth.”

  75. The Watchtower magazine, December 15, 2007, page 14 – “Are you helping your children to ‘keep themselves without spot from the world’? (James 1:27) Satan would like to reel in your children as a man reels in fish. Various clubs and other organizations are designed to make young people fit in with Satan’s world. But Jehovah’s servants already belong to the only organization that will survive the end of this wicked system of things. So Christian youths should be encouraged to have “plenty to do in the work of the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58) Godly parents need to assist their children to set goals that will give them a happy and rewarding life that honors God and helps them to be ready for Jehovah’s day.”

The Watchtower magazine, July 1, 1995, page 21 – “This organization will survive Armageddon into God’s new world. In this way that nation could be viewed as the nucleus of the righteous human society, the new earth, that will exist after the destruction of Satan’s world.”

  76. The Watchtower magazine, August 15, 1962, page 494 – “Children, Do You Obey Jehovah? – We are living in a momentous time in human history, not from the standpoint of the remarkable inventions man has produced, but from the standpoint of Jehovah’s purposes. It is the long-foretold time of the end for the present wicked world. Shortly Jehovah will terminate its existence in the battle of Armageddon and usher in a new world of righteousness. It is a serious time for children as well as adults, because children that do not obey Jehovah will not be among the survivors of that battle. God will not preserve them into his new world merely because they are children. This is evident from the fact that he did not preserve the young children through the flood of Noah’s day just because they were children. It is also shown in the book of Ezekiel that just because you are young is no reason for God’s keeping you alive. Ezekiel wrote: “Slay utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin, and little children and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark.” (Ezek. 9:6, AS) Your being children who worship and serve Jehovah as he has commanded and who have the mark of protection—ah yes, that will mean preservation and life for you.

“The question, Do you obey Jehovah? is so important that your continued existence and eternal welfare depend upon your being able to give an affirmative answer.”

  77. The Watchtower magazine, June 15, 1961, page 365 – “Some of you have the bad habit of repeatedly running out to the rest rooms during meetings. You, no doubt, acquired this habit from the juvenile delinquents with whom you are obliged to rub elbows in the public schools and who use it as a means to give expression to their frustration and rebellion. Beware of imitating them! You know they will perish at Armageddon, while you hope to survive it and live through it into the new world, do you not?”

  78. The Watchtower magazine, May 1, 1964, page 274 – “If your child is a Christian and is to maintain his position, he must know that he will be different from those with whom he must associate. But he must know why he is different and be given a full appreciation of the benefits he has in being different. He must know that if he is like the world he will be treated like the world. (Gen. 34:1, 2) He will suffer their evils, their heartaches, their disappointments, their loss of eternal life.”

  79. The Watchtower magazine, May 15, 1963, page 300 – “So it is that by the New World society’s application of the stated Scriptural commands, examples, rules and principles to the issues and problems of life, a great body of theocratic law is being built up. We should benefit by this. It is theocratic because it is in harmony with the Bible law of the Great Theocrat, Jehovah God, and is based upon it. We need to understand Jehovah’s Bible and also respect the judgment, authority and instructions of the New World society. They will discipline us, guiding us in all the issues and problems of life to take a course that will be in accordance with and not in violation of the Word of God.”

  80. The Watchtower magazine, August 1, 1980, page 19 – “Peter was also speaking of the danger of being “led away” by some within the Christian congregation who would become “ridiculers,” making light of the fulfillment of prophecies concerning Christ’s “presence” and adopting a law-defying attitude toward “the faithful and discreet slave,” the Governing Body of the Christian congregation and the appointed elders.”

  81. The Watchtower magazine, September 1, 2006, page 20 – “Respect Jehovah’s arrangement for discipline. If your relative has received discipline from the congregation, remember that this is part of Jehovah’s arrangement and is in the best interests of all, including the wrongdoer. (Hebrews 12:11) Therefore, resist any inclination to find fault with the elders who were involved or the decisions they made. Remember, the best results come from doing things Jehovah’s way, whereas opposing Jehovah’s arrangements can only result in added distress…

“We can learn from this by striving to respect and cooperate with decisions made by those with theocratic authority today.

“In this regard, Delores recalls how difficult it was for her to maintain a balanced view when her daughter was disciplined by the congregation. “What helped me,” she says, “was to read over and over again articles dealing with the reasonableness of Jehovah’s arrangements. I made a special notebook of points from talks and articles that would help me to bear up and carry on.” “

  82. The Watchtower magazine, April 15, 1990, page 21 – “As a result, they respect theocratic authority and submit themselves to it, whether it is exercised by parents or by “the faithful and discreet slave.” (Matthew 24:45-47) Is that true of us individually? Like Noah, are we learning to do ‘all that Jehovah commands’ us and to do things his way? (Genesis 6:22) If so, we are responding to the preparation that Jehovah is giving us for deliverance into his righteous new world.”

  83. The Watchtower magazine, July 15, 1960, page 443 – “Another thing is to follow theocratic ways, procedures and policies. It is written in Revelation: “Great and wonderful are your works, Jehovah God, the Almighty. Righteous and true are your ways, King of eternity.” (Rev. 15:3) No more are we governed by democratic ways and procedures. Such ways emphasize the will of men. When we have been brought into the New World society we are determined to do the divine will. The divine will flows to us only theocratically through God’s provided leadership of the “faithful and discreet slave.”

“Thirdly, we can keep awake by staying in our assigned place in the organization. Those of the “great crowd” are not to dispute or seek to adjust any assignments made through the “faithful and discreet slave.” “

  84. Survival into a New Earth, page 136 – “16. Why is obedience to the elders a protection now, and how is it good preparation for life in God’s New Order?

“The elders do not claim to be inspired. But, as the Scriptures show, God uses them to take the lead, and obedience to them demonstrates respect for the arrangement that Jehovah is using to prepare his servants for survival into his New Order.”

  85. The Watchtower magazine, October 15, 2009 page 5 – “Those with an earthly hope should, therefore, recognize Christ as their Head and be submissive to the faithful and discreet slave and its Governing Body and to the men appointed as overseers in the congregation.”

  86. The Watchtower magazine, August 15, 2015, page 20 – “7, 8. (a) Why should we cultivate a spirit of cooperation? (b) What changes have some Christians experienced? (c) We can be sure of what regarding life on earth in the new world?

“We can prepare for life in the new world not only by submitting to Jehovah’s present-day arrangements but also by working now to cultivate contentment and a spirit of cooperation. If we cooperate with those taking the lead today, perhaps finding contentment and joy in new assignments of service, we are likely to have the same attitude in the new world. (Read Hebrews 13:17.) In the Promised Land, the inheritances of the Israelites were apportioned by lot. (Num. 26:52-56; Josh. 14:1, 2) Today, of course, we do not know where each one of us may be assigned to live in the new system of things. However, cooperation will bring us contentment and great happiness as we do Jehovah’s will wherever we live on earth at that time… What about our future prospects? We may have ideas about where we would like to live in the new world, but we may be asked to move to a different area. Regardless of where we will then serve and what we will do, we can be sure that we will be grateful and contented, brimming with joy.”

  87. Keep Yourselves in God’s Love, page 48 – “This organizational arrangement calls for each of us to be obedient and submissive… Some obey when they agree with the direction coming from those taking the lead but refuse to submit when they disagree with the direction or cannot see the reason for it. Keep in mind, though, that being submissive can include the idea that we obey even when we are not inclined to do so. Each of us, then, does well to ask himself, ‘Am I obedient and submissive to those taking the lead over me?’… Of course, there is yet another form of damage that results when a person refuses to submit to theocratic order. It hurts his spirituality if he is too proud to submit, putting distance between him and his heavenly Father. (Psalm 138:6) Let us all, then, be determined to remain obedient and submissive.”

  88. The Watchtower magazine, July 15, 1958, page 440 – “Do not openly or secretly challenge Jehovah’s channel of communication, as Korah, Dathan and Abiram did, lest the earth swallow you up and you lose your place among those who will live in the new world.”

  89. The Watchtower magazine, June 15, 2000, page 16 – “Some in the congregation may feel dissatisfied with the elders. How should we react when we feel that something in the congregation is not handled just right, or at least so it seems? … Even if something is not handled just the way it should be, should we not have faith in Jesus Christ as the living Head of the Christian congregation? Is he not aware of what is happening in his own worldwide congregation? Should we not respect his way of handling the situation and recognize his ability to control matters? Really, ‘who are we to be judging our neighbor?’ (James 4:12; 1 Corinthians 11:3; Colossians 1:18) Why not bring your concerns before Jehovah in your prayers?

“Because of human imperfection, difficulties or problems may arise. There may even be times when an elder errs, causing some to be disturbed. Our acting hastily under such circumstances will not change the situation. It may only serve to aggravate the problem. Those having spiritual discernment will wait on Jehovah to set things straight and administer whatever discipline may be needed in his own time and way.”

  90. The Watchtower magazine, Simplified edition, November 15, 2013 – “At that time, the direction that you receive from Jehovah’s organization may seem strange or unusual. But all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether we agree with them or not, because obeying these instructions will save our lives. (4) If any are putting their trust in the education of this world, material things, or human organizations, they must change their way of thinking now. You must be ready to help any who may not be putting their complete trust in Jehovah.”

  91. The Watchtower magazine, March 1, 1983, page 19 – “Another important matter to be considered in our Christian warfare is our having a clear vision of the gulf that separates God’s clean organization from the permissive, immoral organizations of this world… So there is really no gray area between God’s organization and Satan’s organization.”

  92. “BCG told the Royal Commission that she was not permitted to associate with people outside the Jehovah’s Witness community. She said that she was taught from a young age that ‘worldly’ people, including the police, were bad and not to be trusted, as they served Satan. BCG’s parents did not allow BCG to attend sex education classes at school or participate in extracurricular activities, such as sport, because the organisation advised against it. BCG said that she was not permitted to attend school after year 10 because choosing higher education over Jehovah was frowned upon by the Jehovah’s Witness organisation” Australian Royal Commission – Report of Case Study 29 – The response of Watch Tower, page 30
